For women in the profession

Women in chiropractic: practice, family and everything in between

I’m a chiropractor, a mother and a practice owner, and I’m Secretary of the board of Women Chiropractors. I know from experience how much women in this profession are holding at once, and why a practice has to fit the life around it, not the other way round.

Women Chiropractors

On the board of Women Chiropractors.

In January 2026 I joined the board of Women Chiropractors, the international non-profit for women in the profession, and in July I was elected Secretary of the board. Both are on the organisation’s own site: Women Chiropractors’ new board members announcement and its 2026 executive leadership announcement.

I’m also a member of its Speakers Council, and on 24/09/2026 its speakers page listed me as its only UK-based speaker.

The views on this site are my own, not the organisation’s.

The numbers

What percentage of chiropractors are female?

In the UK, about half: 48.3% of the chiropractors on the General Chiropractic Council’s register in 2025 reported their gender as female. In the USA the share is lower, at 31.1% of employed chiropractors in 2025. The two figures measure different things, a regulator’s register and a national workforce survey, so read them as a picture of each country rather than a like-for-like comparison.

My own chapters

The juggle is real.

Motherhood and practice ownership

Combining motherhood with practice and business ownership brought me periods of overwhelm and burnout.

Perimenopause

Later, perimenopause brought another significant chapter, one that made me rethink my capacity, my priorities and how I wanted to work.

Ambition and a life outside work

Many women in practice are balancing ownership, family, ambition and a life outside work at the same time. Wanting more from your practice and more from your life are not opposites.

Designing for the chapter you’re in

The practice that works beautifully in one chapter of life may need to look very different in the next. That’s why I don’t believe in one definition of success, and why my mentoring for chiropractors starts with what you want from this chapter.
